Hi, remember me?
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been in your inbox.
For those of you who have been with me for a while: I put this newsletter on hiatus while I tried to figure out WTF I was doing with it. Thank you for your patience.
For you newbies who signed up in the intervening time: welcome.
For all y’all: here’s where I am:
Iridescent Ordinary started out with the mission to explore the joy of a daily practice. After almost two years of regular posting about practices, routines and rituals, my thesis stopped feeling right. It ceased to spark joy and inspire me. I put the whole shebang on pause.
After much thinking and exploration, I came to understand that a little flip-flop is in order.
The New! Improved! Iridescent Ordinary is about the daily practice of joy (instead of the joy of a daily practice).
Big difference. Huge.
Earth 2024 is not a shiny happy place. Earthlings are not shiny happy people. I’m not even going to bother with a list. You know.
I’m no Pollyanna, in fact, quite the opposite. I have overdeveloped worse-case-scenario muscles and flex them at every opportunity.
But I also know there is so much joy to be found in teeny little bursts—or microdoses— inside of our days. I’m on a mission to explore the myriad ways joy presents itself, and how we can be on the lookout for it.
With an awareness of how precious our time is, my aim is to not bog us down with lots of words.
Here’s how it will go down:
You see me in your inbox, then have a quick read, hopefully with a smile, chuckle, giggle, or even an interested lift of your eyebrows. I plant some interesting words, and offer a new lens through which to view your world.
You go forth in your day with a heightened awareness of the joy waiting to be discovered.
Repeat.
At some point mid-week, you’ll get a wee pop of something in your inbox. It’s a grab bag, really. This mid-week joy snack might be a photograph, a meme, a link, some journal prompts. Anything goes.
