Yay for the end of winter!
I can hear spring, dancing through my open back door as I write this. Two resonant sets of wind chimes capture the light breeze, sending some harmonics my way. A handful of birds in nearby trees are singing their hearts out—or rather, singing their spicy little bird genitals out because that little tune says “come to my branch and let’s make little bird babies.” Merlin, an app like Shazam but for birds, doesn’t specifically indicate that particular melody, but I know bird booty call music when I hear it.
For this next version of our mixed tape of joy, we’re adding spring songs.
These are the songs that capture that feeling of that skin tingling delight of stepping outside to find you only need a sweater, not a big stupid puffy jacket; that certain smell of earth as she’s about to erupt into flowers; the glee that comes with spotting the very first bud pushing it’s way past the gloom of winter.
For all of you lovely newbies, we’ve been working on making a playlist of songs that bring us joy. It’s not a group project, but your personal mix. Spanning decades of your life, it’s too daunting a task to do at once, so every couple of weeks I offer a prompt of songs to add. You can start here and then fill in with these past prompts.
We need these little bits of sunshine now more than ever.
My spring songs are:
Bright as Yellow The Innocence Mission
Flowers Miley Cyrus (wait, I think that’s already on there)
Put Your Records On Corrine Bailey Rae
Milk and Honey Hollie Cook
59th Street Bridge Song Simon & Garfunkel
Weather with You Crowded House
These are my songs, from my life. Yours are going to be so very different, from your springs and reawakening. I suspect over the next few weeks, you’ll think of more songs. This is fantastic, keep adding. When you’re in line at the store and a song you totally forgot that you love comes on, add it. Character in a book or movie starts singing a song that makes you happy, add it.
What are your spring songs?

Love words "tomfoolery" and "shenanigans." Remember the game show of the same name? I fear I am dating myself...
Crowded House is totally bird booty music 😍😍😍
