Over the past two years, I've been watching, via Instagram, an aquaintance transition from newly sober to being a queen in pole dancing and aerial hoops. I'm so proud of the way she's been able to channel her energy, overcome fears, and grow physically very strong.

When I was a little kid, I was constantly praised for things, that were EASY for me. Art, reading, writing, getting good grades....etc...but I was never praised or told that someone was proud of me for doing things I thought were difficult. To me. Things other people found easy. Like making a phone call, knocking on a door on Halloween, speaking in class (in fact I was frequently punished grades K though year 4 of college) for low class participation. I still have trouble making phone calls. So when I do, I feel like I should get a gold star. I got over my door knocking phobia working for the census for 6 months in 2010 and canvassing for politicians. And as for talking in classes.... As an adult, I realize the methods in which I learn best, and interrupting that to ask (for me) unnecessary questions is not something I need to do. If someone has a problem with that, that's a them problem, not a me problem. And I'm proud of all of that.

Ruby! I love this! I love the message it has and I want to fully embrace this approach myself as well. You’ve captured it so beautifully.

And second I’m so honor and touched to be a part of this! (It’s me. Hi. I’m the Katie, it’s me.)

I think it’s very rare that you get to see 1) yourself in a different light and 2) see the impact a simple view point can have on someone else. I honestly didn’t think much of that convo we had day of. And now I’m thinking more deeply about it then a lot of other aspects of my week! Thank you for that.

I can’t thank you enough for being a wonderful friend and beautifully creative person. I really admire you for it!
