In her book, Wild, Cheryl Strayed talks about powerful life advice her mother gave her:
“There’s always a sunrise and always a sunset and it’s up to you to choose to be there for it...Put yourself in the way of beauty.”
I mentioned this a few weeks ago, when we kicked off August as our month to appreciate beauty, but this leads me into talking about sunrises and sunsets.
I love sunrises and sunsets.
But is there anyone who doesn’t?
Maybe it’s just different levels of affection.
Some people are content to observe the occasional sunset here or there as it coincides with their day-to-day activities. They go about their lives and are pleasantly surprised every now and again to catch the full-spectrum changing-of-the-guard from day to night.
Not me, I’m rabid for the hit.
I choose seats on a flight based on my view of potential sky prismatics. I book campsites based on proximity to optimal sunset and sunrise vantage points. Nights on the town center around catching sunset from a rooftop bar.1
